Differentiated Instruction Resources

Experienced teachers, well aware of how greatly students may vary in readiness, interest, and modes of learning, work to adjust the classroom to the needs of subgroups of students. This is differentiated instruction.

To learn more, an excellent place to start is Carol Ann Tomlinson’s ERIC abstract, “Differentiated Instruction in the Elementary Grades.” It is available at the ERIC Clearinghouse on Elementary and Early Childhood Education at the University of Illinois. A free copy can be downloaded from
http://www.ericdigests.org/2001-2/elementary.html

The National Center on Accessing the General Curriculum isa rich source for information on differentiated instruction. NCAC’s Senior Research Scientist Tracey Hall’s “Differentiated Instruction,” which includes useful references to other web sites, can be found at
http://www.cast.org/ncac/index.cfm?i=2876

Still more good web site references are provided by Kathy Politis of the Fulton County (Ga) Schools at
